IMMPETUS is very dependent on good interaction with industry. Apart from the Industrial Steering Committee with members from a range of Metals Industries, who approve the research programme each year, there are many other interactions. Each core project within IMMPETUS benefits greatly from having industrialists at the PROJECT MEETINGS which are scheduled on a quarterly basis. This enables the projects to obtain reactions from people in industry that influence the development of the projects and ensure that they have the essential industrial relevance. The SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS are dependent on other industrialists who have particular expertise, or skills, in the area of interest of the group. This enables IMMPETUS to be at the forefront of technology and ensure best practice that is compatible with the most advanced used elsewhere. A further interaction with industry is though INVITED SEMINARS in which industrialists have presented aspects of their work to members of IMMPETUS and representatives from industry.

Other types of interaction are just as crucial to IMMPETUS. It is important to work on materials that are relevant to those in industrial use and industrialists supply IMMPETUS with a wide range of materials that have been produced on an industrial scale to supplement the materials made in-house.

All these interactions require a dialogue between IMMPETUS and industry. A dialogue that in itself benefits IMMPETUS due to the contacts between the individuals. Informal interaction of this type is crucial to IMMPETUS. During the year industrialists have supported IMMPETUS for more than 100 man days, in attending the above meetings.
