IMMPETUS Colloquium 2012 has taken place at The Edge, The University of Sheffield on 3 & 4 April 2012. This Colloquium was the last one of the so called Phase III research period, and gave an opportunity to our researchers, many of whom are PhD students at different stages of their research, to present their work, and to our industrial partners - to identify our research outcome that might become opportunities for their business or solution to their issues.

Spread across two days, there were 5 sessions of 24 oral presentations given by IMMPETUS members, some of which were contributed to by our industrial partners. Individual sessions were dedicated to systems modelling and optimisation, physical modelling, analysis of microstructures, microstructures themselves and new directions in metals and other materials.

The presentations were accompanied by a couple of dozens of posters covering a wide range of topics from the thermomechanical processing of metals to properties of other metallic materials, with plenty of opportunity for discussion and one-to-one interaction.

On this occasion, 80 delegates attended the IMMPETUS Colloquium, including representatives from Tata Steel, Rolls-Royce, Sheffield Forgemasters and Siemens VAI as well as visiting scholars and researchers from two European universities: AGH University of Science and Technology (Cracow, Poland) and University of Oulu (Finland).

The delegates evaluated given talks and presented posters, and the winners were awarded prizes. The listing of oral presentations and posters, including the winners, and all abstracts are available under relevant links in the left-hand-side menu.

Between the sessions and during the dinner on the first night, there were plenty of opportunities to associate faces with names of colleagues from other departments and companies contributing to IMMPETUS’ work, exchange experiences and concerns from research and industry points of view, or simply socialise and link.
